Clerical, maintenance, nurses, and security positions are in the New York State (NYS) classified service. If you are interested in obtaining a classified position, visit the NYS Department of Civil Service for information on examinations and careers in state government.
Recruitment and appointment procedures are determined by the Civil Service law, rules, and regulations and collective bargaining agreements negotiated under the laws of NYS. Buffalo State is required to consider current employees in State service for positions above the entry level in the classified service. If such positions cannot be filled within State service, employment applications from candidates outside of State service will be considered. Note: All classified appointments are temporary pending clearance of NYS Department of Civil Service preferred lists.
Job seekers in need of computer access and/or training, reading assistance, resume writing services, skills training opportunities, or career assessment and counseling may contact the NYS Department of Labor's Buffalo Employment and Training Center to access these free services.
