Emeriti information:
How does one obtain Emeritus status?
In accordance with the provisions of Title D of Article XV of the SUNY Policies of the Board of Trustees, members of the University faculty who retire in good standing shall be entitled to append the term ‘Emeritus’ to the title of their academic or administrative post after the time of retirement. Emeritus rank shall carry with it the following privileges which, in the judgment of the chief administrative officer, are feasible: use of library and study facilities, use of office and laboratory space, eligibility for research grants, and representation of the University in professional groups. No paperwork is required.
Note, according to the Academic Affairs DOPS (Directory of Policy Statements), university faculty in good standing and with continuing appointment shall be entitled to append the term 'Emeritus' to the title of their academic or administrative post after the time of retirement.
In regards to the disposition of your email account upon retirement, please review the Email Services for Retired Employees Policy. Note, retiring faculty do not automatically retain their access and a Retain Email for Retiree ticket must be submitted.
Competitive Class
This class includes all positions for which it is practical to determine the merit and fitness of applicants by competitive examination.
Non-Competitive Class
This class does not require examination. The Civil Service Commission prescribes minimum qualifications for these positions in lieu of an exam.
Labor Class
This class comprises all unskilled labor positions except those at the supervisory level.
Exempt Class
Positions in this class are those other than unskilled labor positions for which neither competitive examination nor the non-competitive minimum qualifications are practicable. Vacancies are open to all qualified applicants.
