Effective staff development requires continuous collaboration between supervisors and their staff. Supervisors are responsible for guiding and supporting the professional development of their staff by offering or identifying learning and professional development opportunities and providing coaching and feedback. To support supervisors in providing such opportunities, the college offers programs and resources that can help staff enhance their work-related skills. Staff also share the responsibility for their own professional development and are encouraged to speak with their supervisor about taking advantage of available resources for professional development.

Examples of staff development goals include:

  • To improve skills and knowledge in order to raise the level of job performance.
  • To leverage strengths more fully in your job in support of your department's goals and the mission of the university.
  • To learn new skills and knowledge that will prepare you for new responsibilities or increase your career advancement potential.

Office of Mental Health Wellness Groups

The Office of Mental Health (OMH) offers all employees an opportunity to practice various coping skills and strengthen their resilience through OMH Wellness Groups, which aligns with OMH’s vision of supporting a healthy workplace environment. The groups include deep breathing and simulation exercises to allow employees to practice rather than have group discussions. Group sessions offer a warm, inviting space that fosters relaxation virtually and provides examples of calming techniques and basic coping skills. Remember that the mind and body are one, and psychological health is just as important as physical health to your overall well-being. The group sessions are free, confidential, anonymous, and virtual employees can call in from any phone.

Free February Offerings

Please note, if the wellness group is occurring during your work hours, please make sure that your supervisor is aware of your attendance and that you are following the time recording policies of your agency.
