Human Resource Management

One of the evaluation criteria in the Agreement between SUNY and United University Professions is "Effectiveness in University Service."  Examples of community service include "such things as successful committee work, participation in local campus and university governance, involvement in campus-related or university related student or community activities." 

Each employee should have at least one (1) college community service activity listed in his/her performance program.  Obviously some activities require a long-term commitment, some are one-time events, some involve a few hours, and some require several hours.  The supervisor and employee will negotiate the employee's level of involvement in college community service activities, taking into consideration the workload demands of the employee's job.

Committee work

• Serve on a search committee outside of your department
• Participate in a campus-wide initiative, for example serving on a strategic planning committee
• Be a member of a committee that coordinates yearly campus events such as commencement, SEFA campaign, fundraising events, etc.

 Participation in local campus and university governance

• Member of College Senate
• Member of any one of the numerous campus committees or boards

Involvement in campus-related student or campus activities

• Serve as a judicial advocate
• Serve as a volunteer in the Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
• Participate in on-campus events (Bengal 5K run, Buffalo State Foundation annual scholarship gala, etc.)
• Usher at commencement
• Open house volunteer
• Participate in community events as a representative of the college (United Way Day of Caring, etc.)
• Serve on a community board as a representative of the college (Literacy Volunteers, etc.)
